Veterinary Physiotherapy is the use of manual
therapy and electrotherapies to treat pain and enhance an animal’s
performance and quality of life. The treatment can be used before
and after surgery to strengthen the patient and rehabilitation will
be used to enhance posture and movement.
However, many animals benefit from
physiotherapy in their day to day life to improve age related
conditions or their performance in general. An animal cannot speak
to its owner and explain that they may be in pain and hence this is
where the physiotherapist can help. Many animals suffer from aches
and pains just like people and it is important to address these
issues before they become a long term condition causing undue stress
and pain for the animal. Animals will often display behavioural
problems and poor performance when they are in pain and hence it is
vital at this point to bring in a physiotherapist to help with these
issues.
Conditions Treated
VeterinaryPhysiotherapy supports and directs the body’s
own healing processes to ensure the best outcome. In much the same
way as physiotherapy supports human medical practitioners, animal
physiotherapy is now finding its place as a valuable adjunct to
veterinary care.
